Launiupoko Hike
Our friend, Dave, is visiting from the mainland so we took him on a little hike on the Launiupoko trail. One trail leads out to a little wash-out river that the dogs love to jump in. Our friend loved the hike and the beautiful views. And of course the dogs had a blast. Here are a few pics form the day.
Caravaggio is so handsome.
Ahsoka loves the water.
Devo is not a big water guy but loves to hike.

Olowalu Petroglyphs Hike
One of our favorite things to do with our dogs is find new adventure hikes. We have done many hikes across Maui with the pups (see some of them in the links below). Recently I got out my Maui hike book to look for something new and we realized we have never done the hike to the Olowalu Petroglyphs.
Directions:
Park at the Olowalu General store. Go to the left of the store (when facing mountain side) and follow the road past the water tanker that goes up towards the mountains. When you reach a fork in the road, stay to the left. The sign was hidden by tall grass and we did not see it until we came back. Look for the small white building structure and follow the road toward the rock wall. There you will see the petroglyphs.
This is a very easy hike. It will take you maybe 20-30 minutes each way. I would recommend going early in the morning or later in the afternoon as the area does get very hot during the day. Don't forget to bring your water (especially if you're hiking with dogs). This is a great, easy hike that includes amazing views of the ocean and mountains, plus the petroglyphs of course.

Village Trails--Adventure Dog Hike
Join us for a beautiful hike at the Village Walking Trails in Kapalua. This hike is somewhat intense in areas and does go up hill, so it may not be for everyone. But if you like a good adventure hike and can handle a bit of intensity at times, this is a great one to try. There are several different possible trails to take with maps along the way to help keep you on track. I recommend going up to the pond at the top. It is beautiful and contains many fish and ducks. We hiked up with our dogs then sat and had lunch at the edge of the pond.

Remember to get your dog their Lepto shot (and all other shots) if you're going to do hikes like this.
Don't forget to randomly practice your recall on hikes to keep your dog coming back to you every time!

Launiupoko Trail Hike
Join us on our dog adventure hike on the Launiupoko Trail.
Today we have our SGDs family including Caravaggio, Devo, & Ahsoka. And our friend Tiki, who is the same age as Ahsoka. They are buddies.
If you are looking for a great winter hike, this is the one. Because of the area and lack of shade, I recommend this hike during the winter on a cooler, overcast day. Remember to bring water for both yourself and your dog(s).

Polipoli Hike
Join us on our dog adventure hike at Polipoli in Kula, Maui.
Some of our friends were nice enough to show us this beautiful trail in Kula called Poli Poli. The worst part of this adventure is actually getting to it. The roads are switchbacks up the mountain and make many people car sick (including myself). Once you make it past the paved part, there is still much road to cover in the mud. A 4-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended. The hike itself is very beautiful. Because we are so high up on the mountain (6,200 feet), you actually hike in and out of clouds. It was very interesting. I would highly recommend this hike if you have the proper vehicle to get there.
You can find more information about the hike here.

West Maui Kennels Dog Hike
Video of the Day:
West Maui Kennels Dog Hike at Ironwood Ranch.

The owners of Ironwood Ranch started doing dog and cat boarding a few years ago. I have helped them out a few times over the years and they asked me to take over the boarding duties for a few weeks while they were off island. I was happy to do it. Working at the kennels is a lot of fun, but very tiring. These are some lucky dogs. The kennels are large and the dogs get to hike twice a day an hour or more each hike. There are many amazing trails that we get to hike, that the dogs share with the horse tour rides. This video features just a few of the amazing views we got to see everyday. My dogs have very much enjoyed being able to tag along and go hiking with the pack.

Video Adventure: Pineapple Hill/ Napili Park
Today's Dog Adventure:
Pineapple Hill Linear Trail near Napili Park and the gulches around Hui Road F.
Featuring: SGDs Caravaggio & Devo, and our friend Riley.
I live on Hui Road F in Napili. A friend and neighbor showed me a secret trail that goes through Napili Park, the gulches on each side of Hui Road F, and the Pineapple Hill Linear Trail. This hike is not easy to get to but is absolutely beautiful and lots of fun for the dogs.

Video Adventure: Launiupoko hike, south side.
Video of the Day:
Hiking the trail in Launiupoko, south side.
This trail starts a little ways past the round-about on mountain side of Kai Hele Ku Street. The trail goes both north and south. On this hike, we went south.
If you wish to try this hike, be sure to go on an overcast day. The hike is very hot and has no shade along the way. Be sure to wear sunblock (even if it is cloudy or overcast) and bring PLENTY of water! It is a beautiful path with stunning views.
