Selfie Trick

Teach your dog a fun trick by training them to put their paw over their nose.  You can add any word you would like to this.  We call this trick, "Selfie."
To begin you must find something sticky.  Scotch tape and masking tape are an option, but don't work the best.  What I recommend instead is stickers.  Take a small piece of sticker and stick it to your dog's nose.  When the dog goes to paw off the sticker, add your word "selfie," then "Good" and reward with a tasty treat.  Repeat this until your dog starts to understand the Cue word or offer the behavior on their own.  As the dog gets better, start requiring him/her to keep their paw over their nose for another second or 2 before rewarding.  Take your time with it and have fun!

Hoop Jump: Trick Training

In this video we will show you how to teach your dog to jump through a hoop.
To start, first get your dog comfortable around the hoop by giving them some delicious food.  Once the dog is comfortable, place the hoop on the ground and get the dog to walk through.  When the dog is doing well at this, start raising the hoop a little bit off the ground, then higher and higher as they do better.

Paw & Wave: Trick Training

In this video we will show you how to teach your dog to give you their Paw, or Shake, and also how to teach your dog to Wave.
For each of these, you are going to start by tickling the back of your dog's paw.  When the dog moves their paw, even a little bit, mark with a Good and reward.  Once your dog starts getting the idea, add a word to it, such as Paw or Shake.  When the dog lifts their paw, place your hand under their paw and mark with your GOOD and reward with a treat. I recommend teaching the Paw or Shake first.  Once the dog has a good idea of Paw or Shake works, use the same method to move into teach them how to wave.

Dog Tricks--Dog Apps/ Reference & Help

Dog Tricks

Iphone Apps for Dogs/ Dog Reference & Help
Updated:  December 12, 2012
$0.99

This app is a great one to add to your phone.  This app includes several helpful features.  Included in the "Tricks" section is a list of things to teach your dog with pictures and instructions on how to do so.  This list includes both basic training (such as sit and come) and trick training (such as dance).

Also included in this app is a "Search" section where you can search different dog breeds and read basic information on each breed.  A very helpful reference.

I would highly recommend this app to any dog owner.  Keep in mind that the instructions given within the app are a basic overview of each command or trick.  If you are having a hard time training your dog on basic things like sit and come when called, this app may offer some assistance, but professional training help is recommended.  For those owners who have a good grasp on basic obedience and want to add a few tricks, I would highly recommend this app.

Pictures of the selected command or behavior.
Hit the info button to get the description of how to do this.

The "Search" section of this app.
You can search dog breeds and get basic information of each breed.

Finally, the Dog Tricks app includes a "Bark Machine" section.
This is similar to many dog bark apps.
Each button makes a different noise to tease your dog.
